Abyss Bloom
How it works
A square, not columns
Seven by seven — forty-nine cells. There is no left-to-right reading here and no first column that has to start a hit.
What counts as a cluster
Five or more identical glyphs that touch edge to edge. Diagonal contact does not join a cluster; a corner alone is not a neighbour.
The cascade
A paid cluster clears, and the glyphs above drop into the gap. If the new arrangement contains another cluster, it pays too — the chain runs until nothing is left.
Size matters more than count
The reward is banded: five to seven, eight to eleven, twelve and up. Growing a cluster by one glyph can cost nothing and change nothing, or it can move the whole band.
Rewards
Rewards below are multiples of your stake.
| Glyph | 3 alike | 4 alike | 5 alike |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shell · Wild | ×10 | ×26 | ×72 |
| Whale fluke | ×6 | ×14 | ×40 |
| Koi | ×5 | ×12 | ×34 |
| Sea star | ×4 | ×10 | ×28 |
| Droplet | ×3 | ×8 | ×24 |
| Anchor | ×3 | ×7 | ×20 |
| Kelp | ×2 | ×6 | ×18 |
The odds
Neighbours, not sequences
The count that matters is how many identical glyphs are connected, and connection is checked in four directions only. A diagonal chain of twelve pays nothing.
The cascade is not free money
Each cascade step is a fresh draw over a partly emptied grid. The chance of a second cluster is real but modest, and the return figure already includes every step.
Banded rewards
Because rewards jump in bands, the marginal glyph is worth either nothing or a great deal. That is where most of this mechanic's variance comes from.
Guide
Where the grid came from
The first paying machines had three physical wheels and one line across the middle, because that was all the mechanics could read. Everything since — extra columns, zigzag paths, ways instead of lines, cascading grids — is a way of asking more questions of the same random draw.
What the return figure is
The number printed on every game is a long-run average: what the game returns across millions of rounds, not what it returns to you tonight. Over a hundred rounds the spread around it is enormous; over a hundred thousand it is not.
Reading a reward table
Rewards are quoted as multiples of your stake. A ×300 line does not mean the game is generous, it means that line is rare. The frequency and the size always move against each other — that is what keeps the return figure fixed.
The thing worth remembering
No grid game has a memory. A column that has not shown its top glyph in two hundred rounds is exactly as likely to show it next round as it was on the first. Every system built on the opposite belief is built on sand.
