The Hidden Meridian
How it works
Ten paths, not twenty
Fewer paths than the standard grid, and a reward table scaled up to match. The base round is deliberately quiet.
The glyph that is drawn
Three scatters open the free rounds, and one glyph is drawn at that moment — the same one for the whole run, named on screen before the first free round turns.
What expanding means
In a free round, if that glyph lands anywhere on three or more columns, it fills each of those columns completely and pays across every row at once.
Why it swings
Almost all of the value in this mechanic sits in the free rounds, and inside them it sits in a handful of them. A quiet run and a very loud one come from the same table.
Rewards
Rewards below are multiples of your stake.
| Glyph | 3 alike | 4 alike | 5 alike |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atlas page · Wild · Scatter · Glyph | ×14 | ×66 | ×330 |
| Compass rose | ×9 | ×38 | ×190 |
| Sail | ×6 | ×26 | ×130 |
| Volcano | ×4 | ×17 | ×86 |
| Butterfly | ×3 | ×13 | ×66 |
| Coin | ×3 | ×11 | ×56 |
| Leaf | ×2 | ×9 | ×46 |
The odds
Deliberately front-loaded risk
Ten paths instead of twenty means the base round pays less often. That saved return is moved wholesale into the free rounds.
Which glyph you draw matters
A high glyph expanding across three columns is worth many times what a low one is. The draw is uniform across the paying glyphs, so half your runs will be middling by design.
What a long dry stretch means
It means the sample is short. This mechanic's return is defined over thousands of rounds, and the rounds that carry it are a small fraction of them.
Guide
Where the grid came from
The first paying machines had three physical wheels and one line across the middle, because that was all the mechanics could read. Everything since — extra columns, zigzag paths, ways instead of lines, cascading grids — is a way of asking more questions of the same random draw.
What the return figure is
The number printed on every game is a long-run average: what the game returns across millions of rounds, not what it returns to you tonight. Over a hundred rounds the spread around it is enormous; over a hundred thousand it is not.
Reading a reward table
Rewards are quoted as multiples of your stake. A ×300 line does not mean the game is generous, it means that line is rare. The frequency and the size always move against each other — that is what keeps the return figure fixed.
The thing worth remembering
No grid game has a memory. A column that has not shown its top glyph in two hundred rounds is exactly as likely to show it next round as it was on the first. Every system built on the opposite belief is built on sand.
