How it works
The grid
Five columns, three rows — fifteen cells, the shape most grid games settled on.
Twenty paths
Straight rows, zigzags and V-shapes, all fixed and all live. Which cells a path touches is printed in advance and never changes between rounds.
Wild and scatter
The wild substitutes for any paying glyph on a path. The scatter ignores paths entirely: three of them anywhere on the grid open a run of free rounds.
Free rounds
Free rounds are capped at twenty per run, so a run always ends. They cost nothing and pay on the same table as a paid round.
Rewards
Rewards below are multiples of your stake.
| Glyph | 3 alike | 4 alike | 5 alike |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ringed planet · Wild | ×12 | ×60 | ×300 |
| Nova · Scatter | ×5 | ×20 | ×100 |
| Rocket | ×8 | ×34 | ×170 |
| Moon | ×5 | ×22 | ×110 |
| Comet | ×4 | ×16 | ×80 |
| Saucer | ×3 | ×12 | ×58 |
| Probe | ×2 | ×9 | ×44 |
The odds
The two halves of the return
Roughly four fifths of the printed return is paid by ordinary path hits. The remaining fifth arrives through free rounds, in lumps, and much less often.
The scatter's real frequency
Three scatters on fifteen cells is an uncommon event — a low single-digit percentage of rounds. The reward table already assumes that rate.
What twenty paths change
More paths means more small hits and a smaller average hit. It does not change the return; it changes how the same return is delivered.
Guide
Where the grid came from
The first paying machines had three physical wheels and one line across the middle, because that was all the mechanics could read. Everything since — extra columns, zigzag paths, ways instead of lines, cascading grids — is a way of asking more questions of the same random draw.
What the return figure is
The number printed on every game is a long-run average: what the game returns across millions of rounds, not what it returns to you tonight. Over a hundred rounds the spread around it is enormous; over a hundred thousand it is not.
Reading a reward table
Rewards are quoted as multiples of your stake. A ×300 line does not mean the game is generous, it means that line is rare. The frequency and the size always move against each other — that is what keeps the return figure fixed.
The thing worth remembering
No grid game has a memory. A column that has not shown its top glyph in two hundred rounds is exactly as likely to show it next round as it was on the first. Every system built on the opposite belief is built on sand.
