Voltarc Summit
How it works
A grid that will not sit still
Six columns, each of which draws its own height between two and seven rows at the start of every round.
Ways, recalculated each time
The number of ways is the heights multiplied together. Two rows on every column gives 64; seven on every column gives 117,649. Most rounds land somewhere in between.
What that means for a hit
A tall column multiplies everything downstream of it, so the same five matching glyphs can be worth ten times more on one round than the next.
Reading it honestly
A high ceiling is not a high chance. The tall rounds are the rare ones, and the reward table has already priced that in.
Rewards
Rewards below are multiples of your stake.
| Glyph | 3 alike | 4 alike | 5 alike |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bolt · Wild | ×18 | ×80 | ×400 |
| Gate · Scatter | ×5 | ×22 | ×110 |
| Helm | ×10 | ×42 | ×210 |
| Wing | ×6 | ×26 | ×130 |
| Laurel | ×4 | ×17 | ×86 |
| Ridge | ×3 | ×12 | ×62 |
| Cube | ×2 | ×9 | ×46 |
The odds
Two random draws, not one
First the heights, then the glyphs. The heights alone spread the possible ways of a round across four orders of magnitude before a single glyph is placed.
The ceiling is a headline
117,649 ways requires all six columns to draw seven rows at once — one outcome out of six to the sixth. Most rounds sit nearer the middle of the range.
Reading the volatility
High volatility here does not mean the return is worse. It means the same return arrives in fewer, larger pieces, and a short session is a poor sample of it.
Guide
Where the grid came from
The first paying machines had three physical wheels and one line across the middle, because that was all the mechanics could read. Everything since — extra columns, zigzag paths, ways instead of lines, cascading grids — is a way of asking more questions of the same random draw.
What the return figure is
The number printed on every game is a long-run average: what the game returns across millions of rounds, not what it returns to you tonight. Over a hundred rounds the spread around it is enormous; over a hundred thousand it is not.
Reading a reward table
Rewards are quoted as multiples of your stake. A ×300 line does not mean the game is generous, it means that line is rare. The frequency and the size always move against each other — that is what keeps the return figure fixed.
The thing worth remembering
No grid game has a memory. A column that has not shown its top glyph in two hundred rounds is exactly as likely to show it next round as it was on the first. Every system built on the opposite belief is built on sand.
